NON-QUALIFIED DIVIDENDS
In reviewing my Fidelity account details for dividend
distributions I found 2 that were classified as
Non-Qualified. Since they are very trivial amounts the most
expeditious thing to do is to
edit the Bivio entries to mark them as non-qualified.

Perhaps I'm missing something but I don't see Ordinary
Income as an option.
So I'm assuming it would be short term capital gains
depending as we held the stocks in
question for less than 1 year.

Is that correct?
Thanks -----Happy New Year........Jay
Edit them to non-qualified, bivio will get the tax classification correct.

When I click Edit for the bivio entry there is a pull down
menu with 9 choices. none of the choices is Non-Qualified.
I must be doing something wrong.
YOU ARE CORRECT.

I do not remember this being problem for the past two years when we converted the ordinary income for our back-up investment mutual fund as originally reported by TD Ameritrade to a combination of ordinary and qualified. It may be that you need to look at the Investment Info screen for your investment and change it from 100% qualified to not 100% qualified.

It appeared to be glitchy and it took me a while to get it to work. I apologize that my response was not clear.

Thanks, but same results as before - no option for
non-qualified dividend.
Visit Accounting > Investments.

Click "info" (to the far right) for the appropriate
security.

Select the "Not 100% Qualified" option. Click OK.

Now when you edit a distribution transaction there will be a
choice for "Ordinary Dividend". Or, you can wait until you
take the tax interview which will allow you to address
qualified vs. non-qualified status for distributions.
aha........Certainly, intuitively obvious to the casual
observer.

thx

Thanks, Jim. This is the correct answer. As with most tax-related accounting tasks, you are better off waiting until you have all your tax documents.

For those of you who want more detail, read these answers from Laurie:

For the rest of you, relax about your taxes until late February.

Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks to James Thomas. I was just about to bug Laurie about
the drop-down menu with no "orrdinary dividend" on it when I
read his reply about this topic.
This worked just as he said it would, and now I can print
out my treasurer's report.
