Heads Up if You Owned KHC or MDLZ in 2016

Just to let you know if you owned either of these stocks in 2016, revisions to 1099's are just starting to come through because they have reclassified their dividends and gotten information to the brokers late.

It's best to wait to file your tax forms or distribute your K-1's until you get your revised 1099's and make whatever changes they show.

The changes will also impact any sales of the two companies your club may have had.

HI Laurie.

Is there any more details you can provide on this? We sold MDLZ as we closed out our club in August. We are checking with our broker for a new 1099 but they have pulled all of our statements and the original 1099 from their website. We used Trade King. We have problems with the previously.

Any advice you can provide would be most welcome.

Thanks,
Ingrid Bauer

What is the initial source for this information on the MDLZ dividend re-classification? We hold MDLZ. Scottrade has not updated the 1099 yet.

I navigated around the MDLZ website looking for information without success. I may have overlooked it. We also searched the web for the information at our most recent meeting. I think demonstrating where to access this information for dividend re-classifications could provide valuable insight to my partners for future similar situations. I would like to present them with sources for the initial information, updates/news releases, etc. at our next meeting.

We've been hounding our broker (Scottrade) for the KHC/MDLZ recharacterization that is holding up the 1099. We have filed for an extension of the 2016 March 15th deadline for the club filing. Just today Scottrade sent us a "Real Time Summary" of an "unofficial" 1099. We're going to do our audit against that, distribute the K1's to members, and then when the "final" figures come in we'll run the Bivio tax program again and compare the 2. If there was "sizeable" discrepancies, then ask those members to file a personl) amended return

It can be a treasure hunt trying to find information like this on the Company website. It can usually be found in the investor relations section somewhere.

In the case of Mondelez, it is found at the bottom of the page where they list their dividends:

Mondelez Dividend Reclassification

Kraft Heinz also posted it at the bottom of their dividend page:

Kraft-Heinz Dividend Reclassification

What you are usually looking for is something called a form 8937. Sometimes the links are also hiding in the FAQ's in the investor relations section.

Looking for the information as an investment club educational activity is a good idea. There is lots of useful information in many investor relations sections of company websites. Poking around there helps you get to know the company better.
