Bivio Accounting for Options

Hi Cool Club,

I along with some members of SF Chapter Model Club have organized an Options Club. What I would like from you information

on how Bivio handles options. What would be nice is some sample reports. We want to see how they handle the accounting.

Hi Vivian,

Selling options will really add to the interest and money to your club. My club has been selling options since mid 2008 and we have earned more than $10,000 from premium + approx $6,000 from price appreciation to the end of 2012 for a total of $16,000.

I presented a class at InvestEd on how we did it, all of the options transactions - everything, so that you can see how it was done.

The Bivio software is the only software that correctly records options, though I could not convince my treasurer to switch from the BI software. Yes, she does report our earnings, but we probably pay a little more than we need to as a result. But hey, I do NOT want to be the treasurer, so I go with the flow. I strongly encourage all clubs and individuals, especially if you want to build interest and make money, to start selling options. You will be amazed how attitudes change when your members see the kind of money they are making each month.

Dear Vivian,

bivio handles not only your options transactions correctly, but also your partnership accounting correctly. Part of what you get with our service is correct valuation of options. Since this affects your partnership accounting, it is just as important as handling the tax treatment of options purchases and sales. Something bivio also does correctly. As MaryAnn noted, we provide the only investment club accounting software that does this.

In addition, bivio prepares the tax reporting you need to report your options transactions. This is especially important as the new cost basis reporting rules kick in and your broker reports more of your information to the IRS to match up with what you report. We also handle wash sale reporting automatically. This is another feature no other investment club software offers.

I'd be glad to give you samples of whatever reports you're curious to see. But we can do even better than that. We provide a 3 month totally free, totally functional trial. It includes the ability for you to record options data. If you'd like, you could read in your current club data and then add in some test options transactions to see for yourself how the program would work for you.

This could be done without disturbing any of your real club records.
