Earnings season is upon us
Hi Everyone,

It's earnings season! It's good to pay attention to this when you're deciding on stocks to buy or sell.

The note below was just posted on the COOL Club discussion list. Though the discussion there is about options, I thought you would find the information interesting to share with your investment clubs.

As Sharon mentions, volatility can be particularly high around earnings announcements. If you're looking at a stock purchase or sale, make sure to double check when the next earnings report is coming out. Look at recent price activity and see whether there seems to have been some temporary change in anticipation of results or because of results. You might increase your chances of getting a bargain or avoiding a temporarily inflated price.

Thanks for the heads up Sharon!

Paul's next Cool Club presentation will reflect on selling options during earnings season and I thought all the cool dudes and dudettes who read this discussion list would be interested in seeing a chart that shows the distribution of earnings reports by day for this quarter's earnings season. So, here it is:

(Source: Bespoke.com)

If you are interested in going to the source where I found this chart, it came from this article at Bespoke.com: Key Earnings Reports Next Week.

It will be interesting to see how Mr. Volatility behaves over the next several weeks in light of the earnings reports and associated guidance which the reporting companies will provide. I am very much looking forward to this week's Cool Club session and its timely topic.

Good trading...
Sharon
