ATTN: Clubs Filing NY State Tax Returns

NY state made a late change to the address club tax returns need to be sent to. Before we became aware of this, we had printed on the cover page that you should mail your NY state forms to an address in Binghamton, NY. This was incorrect.

The correct filing address for NY returns is:

STATE PROCESSING CENTER
PO BOX 15198
ALBANY NY 12212-5198

If you sent your return to the incorrect Binghamton address, we have contacted the state and Rachel (ID
#62197) has told us this:

She said that NYS would forward the return to the
appropriate office, but she said it might be a good idea to
submit a second copy directly to the correct address to
ensure that the return is entered as timely filed. She also
said that since it is a partnership return with no tax
liability or refund claim there wouldn't be a problem with
two identical returns in the system.

Laurie...

Was this an error on bivio's part or is it NYS's error? I ask because if NYS is at fault for the late change then the onus is on NYS to manage the problem for incorrectly sent returns. These are not trivial costs and inconveniences. It's expensive to print and mail returns that are the size of a small book! If NYS's error and they approved the address, then I would let the onus be on them.
