Schwab / TD Am Merger
Our club uses TD Am which is going to merge with Schwab.
Have others been ok with Schwab's services?
Thanks in advance
Our club, Keene Horizons Investment Club, has been very satisfied with the services offered by Schwab, including overnight data imports for Bivio statements. Schwab’s telephone support has also been very good for us. Hopefully, the merger transition to Schwab will be seamless for your club. If not, you may have quite a bit of paperwork to complete.

Good Luck,
Chuck

Chuck,

My club has TDA, which auto snycs all account transactions to bivio. Is this what you mean by "overnight data imports"?

Scott, I have personally had TDA and Schwab accounts. Years ago I also had TD Waterhouse which merged with Ameritrade. Even at that time the merger was seamless for the account holders. Given the advances in computer technology, I expect the same. The research capabilities on both TDA and Schwab are about the same -- very good. However, I'm sure that we will have a learning curve on getting used to navigating the website.

We have used Schwab for 15 years or so and it has worked well with Bivio. And yes, transactions are automatically synched.

Our club (SCSIC Columbus IN) has used Schwab for over a decade without
incident (to my knowledge) and they are very helpful at tax time and
withdrawal time and very accurate. The one thing I wish they permitted was
deposit of member capital contributions by check photo, we have to mail the
physical checks in (or hand carry to an office 50+ miles away) which
creates a lag between receipt and deposit posting time for us (and risk of
loss or error).

We have used Schwab for over 10 years with no problems.  Norm, we have half of our membership using Bill Pay with their banks and the other half mail in their own checks.  They all go to a central location in Arizona for Schwab.  We value the contribution when received by Schwab.  We have had only 1 lost check in the 10+ years.

Does anyone know if they accept BillPay deposits and if so, what is their holding period B4 U can withdraw funds?

Thanks everyone for sharing their Schwab experience.
Scott
Martina,

Thanks for the clarification on Bivio receiving data from Schwab.  Yes, when I referred to "overnight data imports", I meant it too mean the same thing as "auto syncs all account transactions to Bivio".

Hi all,

This has quite a while before it becomes reality. At the moment it appears expected closing will be in the second half of 2020.

As such, I'm sure there are many details to work out.

In general, Schwab seems to do a great job for clubs. The only issue I've seen that causes some clubs extra problems comes at tax time if a club owns a stock whose dividend distributions get reclassified.

Schwab only provides total reclassification amounts for the year. They don't provide the reclassification per date received like TDAmeritrade does. Clubs need this to properly update their bivio record keeping and the cost basis of any stocks affected.

This creates extra work as the club then has to go to the investment website and find out the per date amounts to make the changes needed. This is also more complicated work that many are not comfortable doing.

Regular companies rarely reclassify dividends, but REIT's and many ETF's do often. If you keep your accounting simple as we recommend and stay away from those investments, you wouldn't run into a problem.

Just a heads up for those that choose to ignore those recommendations.
