Heads Up If You Own AL or BGS
If you file a amended return do you have to resend everything again? Is there a special form for amended returns?  If you know of a link on how to go about this please include.
Thanks, very much appreciate everyone's help.

Many of your clubs own AL and/or BGS.

Just a heads up that there have been late reclassifications to their dividends.  Many clubs are now receiving revised 1099's to show that.

You'll need to make these reclassifications to properly report your taxes and adjust the cost basis of your shares.

If you did not sell any shares in 2021, and you have already filed your club taxes,  you'll need to make the corrections.  However, you can decide whether or not to file an amended return.  You will have over-reported your taxes, so the IRS would probably not complain if you don't.

On the other hand, if you did sell shares in 2021, and you have already filed, you do need to update and file an amended return.  You will have underreported your capital gains on your sales. Something the IRS probably won't like.

I have sent an email, but not heard back from them. Maybe if all of you email them to ask the question, it will help to get their attention.

We have had quite a few clubs that have had the changes come though on corrected 1099's. Your brokers may be waiting until March 15 to issue new ones.

If you have filed for an extension you will be able to deal with the information when you get it but you need to do that before March 15:

Hi Laurie,

I hope they are more responsive than MIND. I sent them an email about 4 days ago and have not even an acknowledgement that they received it.

By the way, please tell me if this makes sense: I called TDA and got connected with their tax department as you suggested. The tax department says these dividends come in on their little green screens with the details of the nature of the dividend (qualified, nonqualified, non-dividend distribution, etc., and that is as far as they get into it. And, they said that I need to contact the company's investor relations and see what they say. Is that how these brokerages operate?

Thanks,

Peter Dunkelberger

No, I haven't. I understand they have 30 days to file amended 1099's when they discover the error. I guess you will have to keep checking TD to see if they update it.

How does one mail a superseding return?
Barry
You file a 1065x (corrected return).

Get the form a instructions from irs.gov. I had to file one because of the K-2 K-3 mess. It really wasn’t too bad other than having to mail ~15oz document.

This morning our Treasurer emailed AL Investor Relations and TD Ameritrade and has not heard back from either.

She then checked AL's Annual Report, and it says that the dividend declared per share for year ended December 31, 2021 is $.67, not the $.64 indicated in the original TDA 1099. Is this the reclassification they're talking about?

Our club has 100 shares of AL and we have not sold any. Would TDA issue a corrected 1099 for a $3 increase? If not, what do we need to do? We'd sent in our returns before we were aware of the change, and just in case filed for an extension. Delivery is confirmed for both.

Thank you, bivio, for everything you do!

Our club owns AL.  TDA has not updated our 1099.  Has other TDA clubs received updated 1099's from them?

I sent TD Ameritrade an email about this in March when
Laurie alerted us to this issue. They replied there would
be a corrected 1099 within a month. When I didn't receive
one by the date they gave me, I emailed again. Their
response is "oh, we made a mistake, you are not getting an
amended one. " Does this clear me to send the original
1065? I did file for an extension but only want to send
taxes once. TIA
