foreign companies Do any clubs own AEM? Our club did not intend to own any foreign stocks but has this as a result of a buyout. What issues will I be looking at end of year as a treasurer? Thanks, Mary D. Sent from Mail for Windows This is a Canadian company trading on the NYSE. You shouldn't see anything different than you see on your taxes now. You will have a line item indicating what income was foreign but it does not complicate the taxes. My club often has foreign stocks. If you receive a dividend that is taxed then you can subtract the tax off your taxes when you file in April. A few years ago, our broker (Schwab) had us complete Canada Revenue form 302 because we owned stock in a Canadian company through an ADR. I don't remember the benefit we achieved by completing the form, but there was some tax benefit. I suggest you contact your broker for further information. Jack |
