Fidelity AccountSync Status
Hi all,

Without warning, Fidelity has shut off access to their OFX server, which we use for AccountSync. As such, we are unable to automatically import data for Fidelity accounts at this time.

We are working on the next steps required to regain access to club Fidelity data.

This is a high priority issue, but it will take time to resolve. We appreciate your patience and understand the inconvenience this will cause for clubs using Fidelity.

Until our access is restored, clubs can keep their accounting up to date by manually entering brokerage transactions using the yellow buttons on the Accounting > Investments, Accounting > Members and Accounting > Accounts pages.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, feel free to email support@bivio.com.

Any update on getting Bivio / Fidelity playing nice together.

We continue to work on a solution, but there isn't much to report yet.

It appears that there are probably two options going forward for getting club transaction data. The current difficulty is getting specific information about those options and what needs to be done to establish our access. Long story short, while everyone that we've spoken to at Fidelity has tried to be helpful, generally they are unaware of what's happening with the third-party data access systems (old or new). I believe we're making some headway now, but progress is slow.

If clubs want to help and have specific contacts at Fidelity, they could send us an email at support@bivio.com. That might help us spur faster progress.

Fidelity no longer supports OFX, which is what Bivio uses via AccountSync. They are stating third party financial management applications need to now use FDX (Financial Data Exchange) for integrated connections. It is the standard for data sharing, so they say. They provided this link for more information: https://www.fidelity.com/security/third-party-app-protection?ccsource=FA

So it sounds like Bivio needs to work on converting their connection to utilize FDX.

Has any progress been made there?
Hi Marcus et al,

We're continuing to work on this.

The most specific information that we've been able to find out is that access to the Fidelity OFX server is indeed being blocked for all third-party developers. In our most-recent interaction with someone at Fidelity, they said they are "working on the problem". What that means exactly isn't clear.

We had also seen the link that you posted (https://www.fidelity.com/security/third-party-app-protection) and there have been vague references to FDX.

The problem is that we need specific information about how to go about completing our "transition to this secure connection". So far, no one at Fidelity is engaging with us on that front.

We're working on getting access to the FDX API directly, but it isn't clear whether that is actually what is required and/or whether that will actually give us access to Fidelity data. There's likely some further approval that we would need once set up with the FDX API itself. They have so far not responded to our requests for this information. There is also an external service, Akoya, which was spun off from Fidelity a few years ago. That may be an option, and we've started the process of getting set up there, but that would also take time and would likely not be an ideal solution.

It seems likely that Fidelity shut off access to their OFX server without adequately considering the consequences to customers.

It would be helpful for clubs to call Fidelity and put some pressure on them to work with us. You could say something along the lines of:
"We use a third-party aggregator app that helps us do our accounting called bivio.com. Up until last week they had been importing our data via your OFX server, but are now being denied access. This is causing problems for us and they need someone at Fidelity to engage with them to transition to a new system or regain OFX access in the meantime."

Thank you for your patience,
Justin

Hello All,

If I am reading the room correctly, until now, Fidelity has received glowing reviews from several clubs over the last year or so.  In fact, because of the allowance of stock transfers to club members and other considerations, it seems like a lot of additional clubs have moved from other brokerages to Fidelity, as my club has.

This afternoon, I took a few minutes to lodge not a complaint but a serious concern about how this move from OFX to FDX took place apparently without much notice or consideration to what it would do to entities such as Bivio, and hence, clubs and club members.  The representative I spoke with indicated that OFX is used for 3rd parties such as Quicken, not Bivio.  Of course, I have no way of independently verifying whether that is true, and he seemed to suggest the hiccup was of a different nature but he was unable to discuss further because of the business relationship between Fidelity and Bivio.

Might I suggest that other clubs make a call to Fidelity so that they are on alert that they have a large or at least larger contingent of clubs whose interests should be considered in the future.

Spent some time today with Fidelity, Carter, in the back office. He gave no hope. We will be stuck with entering manually - in our case since Dec. 5th. Perhaps he isn't fully in the know. I suggested that maybe they could create a data dump for each club, as this is going to be a lot of opportunity for error. My unhappiness was voiced (especially since we went from Ameritrade to Schwab to Fidelity in the last couple of years - kinda tired of being shoved around). Thank you Bivio people for working this.
Justin - should the clubs hold off entering anything until we hear more, or should we go ahead and get the club info up to date now and then at the end of the month finalize any 2025 transactions, so that we are ready for the 2025 auditing?

I would recommend that clubs keep their accounting up-to-date and not wait until we're able to regain access to Fidelity data.

Once that does happen we can import transactions since the most recent date that we have in each club's bivio Fidelity account so as to try not to create duplicates.

Thank you to the clubs that have contacted Fidelity on our behalf. They have reached out and have provided further information.

There are several data providers that may be options for us to use going forward. We are currently working on determining which option(s) would work and subsequently getting our access set up. Unfortunately, the time of year has made communication with the respective providers slow. We will continue to provide updates as we make progress.

Thank you again for your patience.

Hi, Justin,

I checked the other day and our Bivio account matched our Fidelity account numbers. Is the sync still now working?

Hi Marjean,

No, unfortunately our access is still being blocked.

Any progress on the issue? Has Fidelity provided an estimate when the issue will be resolved? (Just curious how responsive they are)
Hi Raj,

Unfortunately, this isn't something that Fidelity is going to fix (unless they decide to reverse course, which appears to be unlikely). They are now forcing all vendors like us to go through third party services to get the transaction data that we had been able to get directly for many years.

There are a few options and are currently working on getting our access set up, but communication with these services has been slow due to the holidays. Once we do have access, some development work will need to be completed to be able to use the data from the new service. We also have work that needs to be done for tax season. Our apologies, but this process will not be as fast as we or you all would like. We appreciate your patience.

Hi all,

Good news, we are now set up with access to Fidelity data via the provider SnapTrade. Additionally, we are waiting for access to be authorized via another provider -- Quiltt.

Since we have access via SnapTrade now, we have started the process of completing the necessary work to support AccountSync with them. This means that we'll be assessing the data we're getting, making updates to the bivio software, and doing internal testing. We're hopeful that SnapTrade will prove to be a suitable data provider for our and your needs.

Some time will be required to complete this work, but we will do so as quickly as possible. Again, we thank you for your patience.
