Investing in International ETFs
Our club is considering investing in an International ETF.
Are there issues with Bivio tracking and tax preparation
that we should watch for. I know that it is best not to
reinvest dividends (been there, done that) and that many
times there will be late adjustments for foreign taxes.
Anything else we should watch for or stay away from?
Thanks, Mike
Mike:

I order that I might understand better any answers provided
about your question, I would appreciate a little
clarification.

Are you asking about an ETF that trades on a US exchange but
only invests in non-US securities? Or is the ETF you are
considering, a foreign entity that only trades on an
exchange located in a foreign country?
Jack
Trades on US Exchange (eg EFA or VPL).

Mike:

Because no one has answered with specific experience, I can
offer the following information:
1. My club has foreign stock ADRs in its portfolio. Bivio
handles the dividends and foreign tax entries without
difficulty, both in monthly reports and the tax preparation
software.
2. I have US-based mutual funds devoted to international
stocks in my personal portfolio. The brokerage transaction
system labels the various entries with the same descriptions
as the ADR stock distributions so I conclude the bivio
transfer system would handle the mutual fund transactions
correctly.

For further validation, I suggest you submit your question
to bivio support.
