Experience with the CA Secretary of State Number
I am attempting to track down our CA SOS number. We are a General Partnership. Bivio support stated "General partnerships which did not have a SOS number should have been issued a 9 digit temporary one around December 2021". We were established in 2022.
Does anyone know how would we have received ours?
How we can look ours up?
I called the Franchise Tax Board and the msg said that they are too busy to answer calls.
Hi,

Look up your partnership name in the SOS link below and your SOS # will be there.

Ana,

Thank you. Ours is not there but it states that Search does not cover Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) or General Partnerships (GPs). To obtain copies of Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) or General Partnership (GP) filings, submit the paper Business Entity Records Order Form so I will fill out that form next since we are a GP.''

It should also be on your filed documents.

Which field would that be? I think we only used our EIN number for the last two years.

I have often found that the best time to call any tax authority is right when their phone lines open for the day. Second best time is right before they close.

Not sure, it's just one of the ways that came up when I googled it, and I thought it would be faster. Goggle results are as follows:

"To find your California Secretary of State (SOS) number for a partnership, search for your business name on the California Secretary of State Business Search website. The 12-digit entity ID (often starting with "B" or numeric digits) will appear on the details page. It is also on your filed formation documents.

Steps to Locate Your CA Partnership SOS Number:

Search Online (Fastest Method): Go to the CA Secretary of State Business Search. Search by the exact partnership name. Click on your business in the results to view the entity details page, which lists the number.

Check Formation Documents: Locate the copy of your partnership's registration documents (e.g., Statement of Partnership Authority) that were returned by the Secretary of State; the ID number is usually stamped in the upper right-hand corner.

Identify the Number Format: As of recent updates, new entity numbers are 12 digits, often beginning with a "B". Older or specific partnership numbers may start with 19 or 20.

If you cannot find it, you may contact the California Secretary of State or use their BizFile Online portal to request information."

We registered with the county. I did not realize that we also had to register with the state. The bizfile online does not handle general partnerships so I have that form and will mail to the state.
