Verify Fed Taxes has been received
Does anyone know of a way to verify that the Fed taxes I
mailed USPS (certified, return receipt) on 2/27/18 has been
received by the IRS?
Here's the tracking info:
The package is delayed and will not be delivered by the
expected delivery date. An updated delivery date will be
provided when available. The item is currently in transit to
the next facility as of March 5, 2018.

I think if you go into the PO and ask they can check on your package. Good
luck!

1) There are real people at IRS who are committed to providing good service and who will be reasonable about when you mailed it and when it was delivered/received at IRS.
2) Due to budget cuts, phone service is limited and there may be long wait times.
3) the volume of mail received by the IRS at this time of year is beyond comprehension. Someone at the return center signs for the registered return receipt and gives it back to the post office. Due to volume, individual pieces of mail sometimes get stuck in the to be signed/to be sent back to post office/etc piles.
4) You can call to verify with the IRS, but you will wait, and due to volume, it may not show that your club’s return has been received.
5) I would recommend waiting a bit longer, being patient, and having faith.

As long as you have proof that you mailed it by March 15, you are protected from late filing penalties if it gets lost by the Post Office

One thing to make sure of is that you have sent it to the right address. Mailing addresses for IRS filings for some states changed for this year. We posted this earlier, but here it is again:

Filing Instructions and Address

The address you are supposed to mail the return to is also printed on the cover page that is generated when you produce the complete tax package in Step 5 of the tax prep process.

Laurie,

I wanted to follow up on this i'm in a similar situation. Mailed on 3/5 and the post office tracking still says "in-transit, Delayed"... Do i need to resend the return or just hold tight?

Thanks as always for your help!

I mailed our club return on 2/27 and just got the confirmation yesterday 3/16 saying they received it on 3/7.  I hope that helps give you an idea of on how long it might take to get a confirmation that the IRS received your return.   MA Manuel, Dollars and Cents Investment Club
